Using zines as a tool for storytelling, this workshop encourages people to tell stories in first person and share their experiences and claims for social justice. The workshop will be a space opened to the public where people can walk in and out at any time. Facilitators will provide participants with materials, examples of zines and talk to them about how they have been used throughout history as an alternative way of publishing with different production and distribution ways, targeted audience and values than the ones mainstream publishing has. Focusing on the accessibility of zines and their ability to create community, participants will be encouraged to think about the importance of their voices and stating their first hand experiences and how can zines be a way of sharing, raising awareness and creating community.
