Sanctuary Sunday | Inviting Calm with Ginny Sykes & Sarah Sykes

  • 6018NORTH 6018 N Kenmore Avenue Chicago United States (map)

Inviting Calm: Exploring the Basics of CBD and Meditative Yin Yoga Led by Ginny Sykes & Sarah Sykes
Brunch included

Tickets here!

The 45 minute yoga practice will begin with a short meditation, transitioning to a soft yin flow of slow, relaxed postures and a focus on the breath. These techniques can easily be applied to a home practice. Yin yoga is great for the parasympathetic nervous system. This gentle yoga style is beneficial for lowering heart rate, blood pressure, cortisol and blood sugar levels, and muscle tension while enlivening the physical, spiritual and energetic body.

Afterwards, Sarah Sykes will offer an introduction to CBD in the context of hemp products, with an overview of how CBD interacts with our bodies via the endocannabinoid system, and the basics of CBD dosing for optimal wellbeing. There will be optional CBD samples as well as products available for purchase.

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for simple yoga movements, and bring a yoga mat. A few yoga mats will be available for participants.

Each week the Justice Hotel at 6018North will present a wellness-focused workshop as part of the Sanctuary Sundays series, organized by Rhonda Wheatley, through December 22 2019.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Ginny Sykes is a visual artist who also has a performance art practice rooted in dance. She has studied yoga with many fine teachers, including Suddha Weixler, Robyn Okrant and Dede Fuentes. She completed a 200 hour training at Yogaview in 2018, and a 40 hr training with Catherine Ashton, Yoga to Transform Trauma. Having had a number of serious injuries, she has found yoga to be a great healer with its calming meditative focus that helps her respond to the body's physical cues with compassion and patience. She loves the joyous quality of a flowing practice and the strengthening of mind and body that yoga brings her on a physical, spiritual and energetic level--both on and off the mat.

Sarah Sykes is a holistic cannabis consultant and the founder of Sarah Rose Botanicals. Her focus is personalized cannabis care from a compassionate trauma informed perspective. She has been researching full spectrum cannabis products since 2015. Sarah’s approach to cannabis consulting is to support people in achieving their life goals by helping them to minimize anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. She believes that health and wellness enhance joy, and that more people experiencing more joy will help to change the world for the better!
