While Hotel programming has paused, the work of the curatorial cooperative continues. During the pandemic lockdown, Wisdom Baty, Ciera McKissick, Caroline K. Ng, Ji Yang, and Su Yeon Lim created Windows to the World an outdoor, street-facing exhibition to advance collective solutions to systemic problems. The curators are now working with TRAP HOUSE CHICAGO and other Southside organizations to develop programming in the Chatham, Greater Grand Crossing, and South Shore neighborhoods.

 

MOVIE NIGHTS

WEDNESDAY EVENINGS

Film screenings are on topics related to justice. After the screening we welcome discussion about the film and the ideas it raises.

SATURDAY EVENINGS

Saturday night dinner parties are dedicated to sound performances. Local musicians, artists, and curators  explore the sounds of justice and related sensory experiences.

Our facilitated conversational dinners are on a range of topics related to justice. Through a communal meal, guests are invited to share their thoughts and experiences to contribute to a wider understanding of justice.

Sunday brunch is paired with healing services and consultation by local artists and wellness practitioners. Sanctuary Sundays is coordinated by artist Rhonda Wheatley.

Our concierges/curators have worked diligently to present a range of programs that delve into the many types of justice - racial, environmental, economic, gender, etc. - to deepen understanding and activation of justice. In addition to programming, Read Write Library has developed an on-site library for further exploration.

Two weeks of programs curated by Suyeon Lim. Please join us for a series of in depth conversations about activism in East Asian over Justice around decolonization and human rights.

Transforming Pain into Power

 

Nov 6-9, 2019

A week of programs curated by Aisha F. Truss-Miller. We will be explore the following topics:

· the pain and power women of color across generations and ethnicities face in America.

· explore housing as a human right and what that means for access to land, wealth, healthcare, and other resources for people of color and people/families with low to moderate income.

· the challenges people of color have faced while navigating the trauma and systems racism, patriarchy, and classism, and how it plays out with “progressives” and those with the privilege to ignore injustice.

· juke and learn/share dance moves to songs that inspire (past and present).

 

Ways We Make: Nurturing and Building Creative Communities as Mothers of Color

Nov 14-15, 2019

Two day experimental nurturing programs curated by Wisdom Baty intended for mothers of color. Child Care will be provided during special times of the day and people are invited to join us for maker’s workshops/ best practices for M.O.C workshops/ dance party.
